FIA president Max Mosley has won his privacy action against the News of the World, being awarded £60,000 in damages, plus costs believed to total around £1 million.

The judgment was delivered on Thursday morning after Mosley took legal action against the British tabloid newspaper for its allegations about his sex life.

The News of the World ran a story earlier this year revealing that Mosley was involved in an orgy with prostitutes. The newspaper claimed the orgy had Nazi overtones.

Mosley strongly denied those claims and took legal action against the News of the World over a breach of privacy. He sought 'exemplary' damages over the story.

The News of the World's case collapsed when the prostitute who filmed the events and sold her story to the paper did not testify in court.

Mosley faced a vote of confidence in his leadership of the FIA in the wake of the News of the World story, but triumphed despite factions within the governing body calling for him to resign.
